Yeovil - Somerset is situated in a region of the UK, known as the West Country. A town that has grown into the core of the aircraft and defense industry was once a quiet, yet prosperous, market town. Nevertheless, spurred on by its traditional inhabitants the town maintains its ability to attract tourists on a frequent basis.

The towns history dates back to Paleolithic times with remains being uncovered at burial sites situated in the southern part of the town. Built on a Roman road the town was recorded in the Domesday Book, under the name Givele, thought to mean The River Noble. At this time it was a lively market town and these markets still take place today, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Visitors to the town are met with a wide range of activities and entertainment options. The West Country, UK is especially well known for its cider production, with Yeovil being home to a number of farms, brewing their own traditional Perry and Scrumpy.

For a taste of how this fine beverage is produced, you can take a trip to one of the farms open to the public. Bridge Farm Cider, throughout the summer months, is open 7 days a week, and has a wide range of ciders available to purchase. Failing a visit, then any one of the towns time honored pubs will be happy to recommend a pint of the finest local drink.

Yeovil is home to a number a museums, perfect for the culture vultures and those with an interest in history. The Museum of South Somerset is a fine display of the rural life of the county, housed in a newly renovated old coach house. The Fleet Air Arm Museum is the second largest aviation museum in the world. It celebrates the flying arm of the Royal Navy and contains thousands of records and artifacts.

An important part of Yeovil culture is housed at Huish Park. This is the home to Yeovil Town FC, known by locals as the Glovers. Following many years languishing in the non-leagues the club has experienced notably success, gaining promotion to the English League Two. The club, during the past 50 years, is famous for achieving a number of FA Cup victories over bigger teams.

Being located within one of many UK regions of beautiful countryside, and with its warm, traditional dwellers, it is of no surprise that Yeovil - Somerset is as popular as it is.
